Chester boasts the oldest racecourse in the country - known locally as The Roodee. The tight, oval course is just a short stroll through the city centre with fantastic views to the Welsh hill and River Dee.
There are several flat meetings throughout the Spring, Summer and early Autumn. If you plan to visit Chester when there is racing taking place you should ensure that you book your apartment in Chester well in advance as the city becomes extremely busy, and accommodation scarce.

Shopping
For a relatively small city, Chester is a great place to shop. Famous for the two tiered Rows - half timber fronted tudor style shops. The layout of these Rows dates back more than 700 years.
Cheshire Oaks designer outlet is within a 10 minute drive of Chester, while the larger shopping centres at Liverpool and Manchester are within an hours drive.
Chester Attractions
There is plenty to see and do when you visit Chester. Chester is the only fully walled Roman city in England. You can walk around the walls in about an hour. Chester cathedral, The Rows and The Easgate clock - the second most photographed clock in the country behind Big Ben - can all be be seen in an afternoon.
Stroll down to the bandstand on the banks of the River Dee. You can hire a boat to take out onto the water.
