Location and Getting Around Glasgow

Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and located around 40 miles west of Edinburgh on the banks of the River Clyde.

Glasgow city centre is serviced by the M8 motorway.

Glasgow International airport is situated 10 miles west of the city and can be easily reached by road. Glasgow Prestwick airport is 32 miles from the city centre and has a direct rail link.

There are two main train stations in Glasgow. If you are arriving from, or travelling to the south you will arrive and depart into Glasgow Central. For journeys from and to the north and East go to Queen Street station.

Once you have arrived in Glasgow there are a number of ways of getting around the city.

The main bus terminal is situated on Buchanan Street. There is also an undergraound train network which is great for getting around but not so good for seeing the sites. The cheapest way to get around is on foot. As Glasgow city centre is relatively small, everything you need to see is within walking distance. There are many organised walks which will save you from getting lost! Another great way of seeing the city is by taking one of the regular trips that run along the River Clyde.

Sport in Glasgow

Glasgow, like Liverpool, is a city obsessed with football. The main teams in Glasgow are Celtic and Rangers who make up the Old Firm. If you get chance to visit an Old Firm game during your stay in Glasgow you won't experience a better atmosphere at any other sporting event in the world.
