London- A taste of the Middle East and Africa

Monday, November 30th, 2009

London! The Great nations Capital, boasts some of the finest reasturants  in the world. Edgware road is in the Heart of London is a great attraction for tourists both in the UK and abroad. Known for its wide range of Middlea Eastern and North African Cuisine Edgware Road is buzzing day and night. Its easy to get to which ever side of London your coming from. Marble Arch, Edgware Road and Paddington stations are all minutes walk from the Famous Road. If your there, why not check out some of the more popular restaurants which cater for all:

Sidi Maarouf

Sidi Maarouf combines a Moroccan Menu and Chef  from CasaBlanca with all you can from owner Marouf Abouzaki’s reliable Maroush Chain. Even on Quiet days, a cheesy organ player is on hand, massacaring songs from khaled to fairouz , still this is an amazing place, livlier at weekends when belly dancers shimmy around the tables,  Red brick walls, dark wood and stuuded leather upholstery are softened by glowing lamps and billowing silks, With an extensive Menu of Kemia (Morocca meze) together with tagines, couscous and grills, plus an impressive  list of Lebanese wines, the choice is huge. Light crispy briouts are particularly good. Get the mixed plate and savour eggy minced lamb, prawn and pimento, goats cheese and spinach, and the favourite lemony chicken with ginger. Why not finish off with Fresh Moroccan Mint tea and delicate sweet pastries.

Ranoush Juice

Ranoush, part of the Maroush empire, has been squeezing juice s and churnining Shawarma s for decades. Behind the busy counter where the juice squeezers and Shawarma-makers toil, a modest selection on meze is displayed. Many dishes here like falafel, can also be wrapped in Shami bread – along with pickles and garlici Tahini sauce – to take away. Or you can order your food on a plate, and eat at one of the cafe’s marble topped tables or eat at the counter facing the mirrored wall. The flavour used in Ranoush are big and bold. Batata Hara (Hot Potatoes) contain big chuncks of pepper, and slices of garlic. The falafel are crunchy and spicy and the Taboula has a livley zesty zing, this can all be served with a genrous portion of hot bread. A great place to call in day or night.

Rotana cafe

Spread out over two floors, only minutes away from Paddingtons underground tube station is Rotana- a popular Lebanese Cafe that is popular with city commuters, locals, and office workers alike. This area of London is filled with buzzing reastaurants and bistro’s, but Rotana stands out not just for convinient location but also for its renowned Lebenese menu and super-Friendly service. Decorated with whitewashed walls and mosaic features, Rotana is ideal for after work drinks with colleagues, informal mid-week business lunches post sight-seeing snaks and casual can’t be bothered – cooking nights out. Don’t miss the cheese Manakeesh, traditional bread baked with Bulgarian cheese, the lahemvijani made with mince meat , pin-nuts and chili, as well as a range of couscous dishes, seafood and grilled meat.

If your staying in London for the Weekend or a long stay, why not stay in one of the amazing Serviced Apartments in London. With the current economic climate, hotels are just too expensive,. Fun Run when staying in Edinburgh – Is there such a thing?

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Some people think that putting the words ‘Fun’ and ‘Run’ together is a complete contradiction but whatever your views on the matter how about running off some of that excess body armour you put on over the Christmas period!

We all over indulge over Christmas – whoever tells you different is lying I would imagine – and we all come up with our New Year’s resolutions that tend to fall by the wayside about halfway through January – I know I’ve been making the same ones for years now! Must stop smoking, cut down on drinking, do more exercise, eat healthier, etc, etc, etc.

Well I have the perfect solution to chalk a few of these off the board even before the middle of January – where our will power usually starts to strain! The Annual Bupa Great Winter Run in Edinburgh. It is an annual Fun Run of 5km through Edinburgh’s Holyrood Park and can be entered by anyone for any reason.

You can do it for Fun (again not everyone will agree on this), for charity, to shed some of that excess, as your new year’s resolution or for whatever reason you want. The event starts at 12.00pm on Saturday 9th January and only costs £19 per entry.

Thousands of people enter every year and the event is professionally run and can cater to everyone’s needs. They even have a shorter race of 2.5km for those budding athletes aged 7-14 years old.

For your £19 fee you will receive a chip timing device which will record the exact time of completion of the 5km race – so no making up times to show off to your friends. You will also receive waiting for you after you’ve crossed the finish line there’ll be a quality event t-shirt, souvenir finisher’s medal, a bottle of Aqua-Pura water all included in your finisher’s pack.

You will also be able to see your name and time in the Edinburgh Evening News supplement on Monday 11th January – Proof to all of your friends and family that not only did you take part in the race but that you did finish it in a good time (I have faith in all of you).

Ok so now I’ve talked you into taking part in the race all that’s left is to recommend where to stay during your visit to Edinburgh. Well for those of you who haven’t tried/stayed in a serviced apartment before as opposed to a hotel you may not be aware that there are hundreds of these apartments throughout the city of Edinburgh.

The apartments offer the same comfort as you would expect at home – as well as many of the apartments having that all important bath for you to soak your aching bones after the race. They are located throughout the city centre and outskirts and can cater for all tastes and budgets.

Lastly I hope you all enter and enjoy yourself and remember it’s not about how fast you complete the course it’s all about having fun!

City of London Serviced Apartments

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Please visit Serviced City Pads website to view a large range of serviced apartments in London and you can visit the famous ‘City Of London’ its boundaries have remained unchanged since the middle ages and it is now only a tiny part of the metrpolis of London. It is often referred to as the City or the Square Mile, as it is just over one square mile in area. These terms are often used as metonimies for the United Kingdoms financial services industry, which has historically beed based here. Serviced London Apartments are becoming very popular with workers in the city to stay on a weekly basis, they offer a ‘Home away from Home’ feeling with 50% additional space and can often save money versus a Hotel Room.

In the medieval period, the City was the full extent of London. The term London now refers to a much larger conurbation roughly corresponding to Greater London, a local government area which inludes 32 London boroughs as well as the City of London, which is not one of the 32 boroughs. The local authority for the city, the City of London Corporation , is unique in the United Kingdom and has some unsual responsibilities for a local authority in Britain, such as being the police authority for the City. It also has responsibilities and ownerships beyond the city’s boundaries. The Corporation is headed by the Lord Mayor of the City of London, a seperate (and much older ) office to the Mayor of London.

The City is today a major business and financial centre, ranking on par with New York City as the leading centre of glabal finance, in the 19th century, the City served as the worlds primary business centre. The city has a resident population of approximately 8,000, but around 340,000 people work there, mainly in the financial services sector. The legal profession form a major component of the western side of the city, in and around the Inns of Court of which two – the Inner and Middle Temples – fall within the City of London boundary. Many tourist also visit the City of London and find london accommodation really enjoyable when staying in a London Serviced Apartment through Serviced City Pads. List your apartments for FREE with Serviced City Pads

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Serviced City Pads is a rapidly expanding booking company for serviced apartments across the UK. The Liverpool based company, which has been trading since 2007 is looking to strengthen it’s listings in locations that are already represented on the home page of www.servicedcitypads.com as well as add new locations from across the UK.

If you are serviced apartment operator and are interested in listing your apartments with us, just click on the REGISTER button on the home page.

Once you have registered with us, you will receive a unique User ID that will allow you to input the required system into the Serviced City Pads database. Listing your apartments could be easier and it is free of charge. So why wouldn’t you have your apartments listed with Serviced City Pads?

Alternatively, just give us a call on 0844 335 8866 and we’ll be delighted to discuss listing your apartments.

We already have representation in a number of UK locations including apartments in Edinburgh, Birmingham apartments and London serviced apartments; and are looking to add new locations such as Oxford, Sheffield and Brighton.

Our business is a mixture of leisure customers who are looking for a UK city break either with their partners, friends or families; as well as corporate clients who are working away from home on business. It seems that staying in serviced apartments are becoming seen as a valid alternative to customers who previously booked a hotel room and didn’t realise the benefits that an apartment offers – namely more space, comfort and informality than the four walls of a London hotel room. Guests have got used to staying in a hotel, and amazingly many customers we speak to no longer really enjoy their stays but aren’t aware of what staying in a short stay apartment can offer – a home away from home. Infact our company logo is “where hotel meets home” and we think this really represents us as a company and what we offer the customer.

We are a good company to do business with as we have a Can Do attitude, are a young company and have a dynamic team people with safe hands to handle enquiries. We also have an extranet site that allows the apartment operator to enable their apartments to be booked online. This seems to be the way that a large number of bookings are being made (certainly leisure bookings), although we do understand that some operators (generally those with a small number of apartments within their portfolio) prefer to take bookings on a manual basis - in this case, we will always check availability with the Operator before confirming with the guest. We are happy to work in both of these ways, but the ability for the customer to book online offers an obvious advantage.

Birmingham bids to be host city for 2018 World Cup

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Birmingham today submitted plans, along with 14 other UK cities, to be a host city for the 2018 Football World Cup, which England is bidding for.

Birmingham is a city with rich sporting heritage. The first ever football league in the world was started in 1888, driven by the originators of Aston Villa FC. Birmingham now boasts two premiership football clubs – Birmingham City and Aston Villa FC. It is Villa Park that can probably lay claim to having the more impressive pedigree, as countless FA Cup semi finals, England internationals and the last European Cup Winner Cup final in 1999. Villa Park was also a host ground during Euro 96.

So you would think that Birmingham has a good chance of being a host city? Serviced City Pads would agree that Birmingham should prevail. Our main concern is the infighting that threatens the English World Cup bid means that England will be beaten by one of the competing countries including Russia, Australia or the USA.

If Birmingham do succeed in becoming one of the English host cities – and they will find that out in December, and then if England wins the bidding process (and that will be announced in 370 days time) then it will deliver a huge boost to the local economy in Birmingham.

Visitor numbers staying in Birmingham will rise dramatically – foreign football supporters following the teams based in Birmingham as well as English visitors to Birmingham who are keen to view what is dubbed as the Largest sporting event on the planet (the Olympic Games may have something to say about that).

Certainly for companies providing accommodation in Birmingham, the World Cup will have a tremendous impact on bookings. This includes hotels in Birmingham as well as many of Birmingham’s serviced apartments which will undoubtedly prove popular with visitors to the city. It is debateable as to which type of accommodation will prove to be more popular, and of course each type of accommodation has it’s positive and negative points – space and value for money offered by the serviced apartments that you will be able to book with Serviced City Pads, or the more formal approach of a hotel in Birmingham city centre.

If you are planning to visit Birmingham, whether to watch a football match, or for an event at the NEC, please check out www.servicedcitypads.com or call us on 0844 335 8866. We will be delighted to help with your accommodation requirements in Birmingham! Good luck with the World Cup bid to Birmingham and England.

Serviced City Pads working with Max Hotels in Bristol

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Serviced City Pads, the independent serviced apartment booking company, is delighted to be working with MAX Hotels after listing their Broad Quay serviced apartments, Bristol on the company website.

Chris Rose, Director at Serviced City Pads commented “We see Bristol as a city with huge potential for corporate stays in serviced apartments. We have noticed over the last couple of years that our corporate clients really appreciate the additional space that an apartment offers v staying in a hotel. Our aim is to really establish ourselves in the Bristol market over the next year.

Max Hotels provide a fantastic product in a number of locations across the UK and we know that our clients will enjoy staying at any of their locations. In fact, we are also placing clients at their property in Reading. We look forward to strengthening the relationship with between both companies throughout 2010. They are just the sort of company that we enjoy working with as they are easy to deal with, act in a professional manner and offer a fantastic product in more than one location”

The serviced apartments at Broad Quay have been open since mid 2009, so are virtually brand new. They are located in the heart of Bristol within easy access of many restaurants, bars and shops. Bristol is remowned for it’s bohemian attitude and this has manifested itself in many small, trendy restaurants opening up acros the city.

The Broad Quay serviced apartments range in size from Studio, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom, so as well as being ideal for the corporate client visiting Bristol; they are also a great palce to stay for a family visiting Bristol for leisure purposes. Imagine if you a family of 2 adults with 2 kids visiting Bristol for a short stay, lets say 3 or 4 days, then it wouldn’t be feasible to stay in a hotel in Bristol – unless you were able to afford a family room, and even then it would mean everybody sharing the same room. That’s not exactly staying in comfort is it? A 2 bedroom serviced apartment would mean that the children have their own bedroom and the adults have their own privacy. The same applies to two couples planning to stay in Bristol. In this case you would need to book two hotel rooms and this is where the trip starts to become expensive. Again a modern 2 bedroom apartment will allow each couple to have their own bedroom (many of the apartments also have 2 bathrooms), and split the cost of the apartment. This is an example of where booking a serviced apartment in Bristol becomes a much cheaper alternative to staying in a hotel in Bristol. You will also have more space in which to relax together.

If you are working in Bristol and you are interested in booking a serviced apartment or if you are planning a short city break in Bristol, then why not call Serviced City Pads on 0844 335 8866. We will be delighted to help organise the perfect accommodation for your stay in Bristol. Check out www.servicedcitypads.com to see our range of apartments in Bristol, including the fantastic Broad Quay serviced apartments.

Have you considered Edinburgh for your Stag or Hen Do?

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

It’s that time of year when stags and Hens start to plan their wedding days for the forthcoming summer. The Stag and Hen weekend (as it has become) is an industry that has flourished over the last decade. Gone are the days when you would go for a couple of pints down the local pub with a few friends the night before your big day. Stag and Hen Do’s often involve a weekend city break to UK cities such as Edinburgh, Glasgow and Liverpool.

A weekend in Edinburgh, for example, is a great excuse to get all of your old friends together and regale old tales from when you wre growing up. You might want to enjoy some luxury pampering (probably more for the girls!) or a pub crawl around Edinburgh where the best man will try and press friends of the groom for any juicy secrets that should be brought up in the Best Man’s speech on the wedding day!

So where should you go drinking in Edinburgh? Some of the best bars include Mathers, Cloisters and Malt Shovel. If you are looking for a nice restaurant in Edinburgh then you would do worse than booking a reservation at The Witchery, The Tower or Rhubarb. Some of the tourist attractions that you might want to see during the daytime are Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of HolyroodHouse and the gleaming Scottish Parliament. For some more detailed information check out the Serviced City Pads Edinburgh Out and About section.

Edinburgh would certainly be considered to be a classy choice for your hen or stag do. It is a great city to visit for the weekend with lots of bars, restaurants and Tourist attractions in Edinburgh to see.

Serviced City Pads will be delighted to help organise your accommodation for your stag do in Edinburgh or your Edinburgh hen do. We have a wide selection of serviced apartments in Edinburgh that will be suitable for your Edinburgh visit. You can have a look at the apartments we can offer on www.servicedcitypads.com, although we would suggest you call us on 0844 335 8866 to ensure we get you the best deal for your stay. We find that managing bookings for large groups in Edinburgh is easier done one on one over the phone. This allows us to really understand what it is you want from your visit and how much you would like to spend. Our serviced apartments in Edinburgh can suit a wide range of budgets and some are suitable for large groups, while others are more family orientated. Groups of girls often find it preferable staying in an Edinburgh apartment rather than a hotel in Edinburgh. There are are number of reasons for this. Apartments allow girls to get ready together before they go out. The additional space that a serviced apartment offers means that you can enjoy a bottle of champagne together in the living area, watch tv, play some music or just chat to one another. You just wouldn’t have the space to do this is if you were staying in a number of hotel rooms. An apartment is also a less formal envionment than a hotel and many groups also like this, a feeling of a home away from home and somewhere they can relax for the weekend.

So, give Serviced City Pads a call on 0844 335 8866 so we can help organise your hen or stag do in Edinburgh. The Reservations team will be delighted to take your call!

Incredible views over London from The London Eye

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

You can’t really imagine the London skyline without the London Eye and yet it is incredible to think that such a famous landmark was only erected on the banks of the River Thames nine years ago (in 2000). The London eye was designed by Mark Barfield architects and has attracted over 30 million vistors since it’s launch. The London eye was originally known as the Millennium Whell and was previously sponsored by British Airways and is now sponsored by Merlin entertainments.

Serviced City Pads would go as far to say that no visit to London would be complete without experiencing the London Eye. Views from each capsule can span up to 40 kilometres in each direction – as far as Windsor Castle on aclear day. You may see the Queen! When full the Londo Eye can carry up to 800 people and it takes around 30 minutes to complete each flight. Particular highlights to look out for below you are Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament, Hyde Park, Nelson’s Column, BT Tower and many other Famous Central London Landmarks. Tickets for your London Eye flight can be booked by calling 0870 5000 600.

Much like booking your serviced apartment in London, the London eye is a huge tourist attraction and should be booked in advance. Serviced City Pads would suggest that once you have the dates set out that you are planning to visit London call 0844 335 8866 and speak to one of the Reservations Team at Serviced City Pads. We will be delighted to help organise your accommodation in London and as we have a wealth of knowledge of London and what it has to offer the London tourist (members of the SCP team spent years living in London) we will be able to help plan your trip.

There is so much that a short stay in London can offer as London is a city with such heritage and history. A serviced apartment in London that can be booked with Serviced City Pads will offer you the perfect base for your visit. An apartment offers a different dimension to staying in a london hotel. Of course, a hotel room can offer certain comforts and can be quite a formal place to stay. You will benefit from eating in the hotel restaurant, but what if you wanted to cook your own food? Staying in a London serviced apartment which comes with a fully fitted kitchen will allow you the option of cooking the food that you want rather than the food that is on the menu. The option of cooking your own meals (whether that is for your full family or if you are on your own) will probably mean that you save money which in turn will mean you will be able to visit more of the London attractions, including The London Eye. Staying in an apartment, as well as offering your family considerably more space than a hotel room, will prove to be a more economic option for your visit.

Serviced City Pads has wide range of apartments in a number of London locations. It is just a question of booking the one that fits your requirements the best, and that’s what we are here to do. Give us a call on 0844 335 8866 to chat about your stay in London.
