Turner Prize 2009 now showing at TATE Britain, London

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

The shortlisted contenders to win The Turner Prize 2009 are currently being exhibited at Tate Britain Gallery, London. The event has been on show since october 6th and runs through to 16th January 2010, with the winner being formally announced on 7th December. As ever, there are four shortlisted artists vying for the £25,000 first prize. These four are: Enrico David, Roger Hiorns, Lucy Skaer and Richard Wright. Serviced City Pads expects Roger Hiorns to be crowned this years winner in London.

The Turner Prize continues to divide opinion much like Marmite with many people questionning where Art becomes Art. If debate is being stimulated then Serviced City Pads sees this as a good thing for the Art world, increasing the general public’s exposure to Art that they would otherwise have no concept of can only have a positive effect both on society and education. This annual art event has been running since 1984 with previous einners including Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin.

It would definitely be worth incorporating a visit to TATE Britain during your short stay in London. The nearest tube station is Pimlico, although you can also stroll along the River Thames from Westminster; or over Vauxhall bridge from Vauxhall station. Central London is really easy to travel across (despite it’s size) as it is served by an efficient underground tube system as well as it’s famous Red London buses.

Serviced City Pads will be able to help with your planning by finding you the perfect serviced apartment in London in which to stay during your visit. There are a vast number of apartments in London that can cater for family trips to the Capital. We have a wealth of experince from living in London so it would be worth calling Serviced City Pads on 0844 335 8866 to discuss your accommodation requirements – whether you would prefer to stay near Trafalgar Square, Canary Wharf apartments or the West End of London. The serviced apartments that we offer can be seen as a perfectly viable alternative to staying in a hotel in London. You will likely have more rooms in an apartment than walls in a London hotel room!

London is an amazing place for a short stay whether with your family or on your own. You might even by staying in london with work. If that’s the case then Serviced City Pads will be able to organise a corporate rate for your stay in London.

BBC sports personality coming to Sheffield

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

This year (2009) sees the BBC sports personality of the year award coming to Sheffield for the first time in the events history. The event takes place at Sheffield Arena on Sunday 13th December at 7pm and follows the successful 2008 which was held infront of a record crowd of 9,000 people at the Liverpool Echo Arena - a crowd that saw Olympic sprint cyclist Sir Chris Hoy crowned as the winner. The event holds a special place in the hearts of the British public and was watched by almost 10 million TV viewers in 2008. The event was traditionally held at the BBC Television Centre but has gone out on the road for the previous 3 years. Much like England playing their home games away from Wembley (as the new stadium was built), this has proved to be a really successful concept from the BBC and has re-invigorated an event that is over 50 years old.

The BBC sports personality award was first won by Chris Chattaway in 1954 and has been won by many famous names since, including Henry Coooper, Ian Botham, Damon Hill, David Beckham and Jonny Wilkinson.

If you are planning on attending the event and visiting Sheffield then you might want to consider booking a serviced apartment in Sheffield with Serviced City Pads. An apartment would prove to be a good alternative to staying in hotel in sheffield, offering more space and comfort at a better price.

The current favourite to win this years award is Jenson Button, the new Formula 1 world Champion – and Serviced City Pads goes along with the bookmakers odds, and thinks that Button will win this year. The event has a history of picking winners from the field of motorsport, although David Haye could provide a surprise at odds of 6/1. The London boxer recently beat Russian giant, NicolayValuev to become the first British heavyweight champion of the world since Lennox Lewis.

Sheffield is a fantastic place to visit for a short stay. In terms of it’s geographical size it is the fourth biggest city in the UK and has benefitted massively from urban regeneration over the last fifteen years.

If you have been lucky enough to secure a ticket for this event in Sheffield then it is time to book your accommodation in Sheffield with Serviced City Pads. You can check out our website www.servicedcitypads.com or call us on 0844 335 8866. One of the Reservations team will be delighted to help with your serviced apartment in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

ATP Tennis World Tour Finals, O2 Arena London

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

The O2 Arena, London plays host to the ATP (Tennis) World Tour Finals this week with the 8 most successful players on the ATP tour fighting it out in a Round Robin event that culminates with a final where the Tournament winner can win $1.67 Million (around £1 Million should he go through each match unbeaten). The event started on Sunday and we have already seen wins by home favourite Andy Murray (who beat US Open winner Juan Martin Del Potro) and Roger Federer who beat Spain’s Verdasco.

The 8 players (Andy Roddick is injured and has been replaced by the Swede Robin Soderling) are split into 2 groups of 4 – headed by Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer, then the top 2 players in each group play a semi-final, then a final. Serviced City Pads expects the London winner to come from either defending champ Novak Djokovic or Roger Federer. Although Murray has won 6 tournaments this year and comes here fresh after an injury, Serviced City Pads expects him to come up short once again on the biggest stage.

The O2 Arena London provides a spectacular setting for a Tennis tournament with over 17,000 seats plus many corporate boxes for corporate customers staying in London.

There are still tickets to be had through this week so if you fancy a last minute London visit and you fancy a trip to London then call Serviced City Pads and we will be delighted to organise a serviced apartment in London for your visit. You could combine the tennis with doing some Chistmas shopping in Central London.

The O2 Arena was formerly known as the Millennium Dome and is situated on the River Thames at Greenwich. The Dome was in danger of becoming an expensive and emabarrassing White Elephant, having cost in excess of £800 million, a symbol of waste from the new Labour Government. However, the site has seen a massive transormation since being rebranded and is now a massively successful venue for sporting events and Live Music (Prince played a number of sellout London shows at the O2 Arena and Michael Jackson was due to take up a long standing residency before his unfortunate death). It is now one of (if not the) busiest live concert venues in the world and has transformed how London can host such big scale events.

Serviced City Pads will be delighted to organise your accommodation for your stay in London. We will be able to organise a serviced apartment in London as an alternative to you staying in hotel in London. The apartment will offer you more space andcomfort than the 4 walls of a hotel room. Our London apartments are situated across the Capital City and are within easy access of all tourist attractions in London as well as being only a short journey to the O2 where you will have a great time roaring on the best tennis players on the planet, and unlike tennis at Wimbledon, it’s all indoors so who cares if it rains!!

Serviced City Pads is a professional serviced apartment booking company. Check out our website at www.servicedcitypads.com or call 0844 335 8866. The reservations team will be delighted to help organise your London accommodation requirements.

Manchester v Liverpool this weekend

Friday, November 20th, 2009

This weekend (Saturday 21st November) sees both Football Clubs from Manchester playing against both Clubs from Liverpool in the English Premier League.

Manchester City make the short trip to Anfield to play Liverpool FC in the Lunchtime kick off; whilst Everton take their depleted squad in the opposite direction to face Premier League Champions Manchester United at Old Trafford in the days Tea time kick off. Both games will be shown live on Satellite TV.

The first game will be intriguing as it is the new monied Manchester City who fancy taking Liverpool’s place in the so called “Big 4″. Liverpool FC look the most vulnerable of that current crop of 4, placing too much emphasis on Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres and little else to back up their team. Aquillani, the Italian international who was brought in to replace Alonso has spent  the majority of his time on Merseyside warming the treatment table sparking fears that he is injury prone. His time spent on the pitch in Italy backs up that theory. This match will see Joleon Lescott making his first visit to Liverpool since leaving Everton. The form he has shown since his big money move  will hardly have impressed England manager Fabio Capello as he picks his World Cup squad. The Man City team which has been put together at a cost of almost £200 million still isn’t quite gelling but will look to mount a Top 4 challenge through the season and will probably look to spend more oil money in the January transfer window. Serviced City Pads the professional serviced apartment booking company (based in Liverpool but with apartments in Liverpool and Manchester) predicts a 1-1 draw.

Manchester United must start favourites for their match against Everton, although matches between the two teams are always tight encounters at Old Trafford. Everton have been robbed of many of their star players (Arteta, Jagielka and Pieenaar) and may struggle against a man United team that is chasing Chelsea in the race to be crowned champions. The Irish and Norwegian supporters who are staying in Manchester serviced apartments this weekend will hope for some inspiration from former Blue Wayne Rooney. Everton are improving though and Serviced City Pads, the Manchester apartment booking company predicts a tight 0-0 draw. The Evertonians will be happy travelling back to Liverpool with a point.

If you are ever planning to visit Manchester to watch Manchester United you should always book your Manchester serviced apartment in advance. Accommodation in Manchester becomes oversubscribed when United play at home due to the large number of foreign supporters (particularly Manchester United supporters in Ireland and United fans from Scandinavia) who travel to Manchester to watch the match.

Serviced City Pads have a wide selection of apartments in Manchester city centre that are perfect for your stay in Manchester for the football. The apartments are spacious and homely and offer more space than a hotel in Manchester.
