Serviced apartments available for the London Marathon this April

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

Serviced apartments are still available in London for the London Marathon that will take place on Sunday 22nd April 2012. At Serviced City Pads we have a range of serviced apartments in London available through our website. Serviced apartments are a great alternative option to hotels as they can provide much more space and comfort and at similar prices. More and more people are turning to serviced apartments as their first choice for accommodation when visiting London and there are a many different apartments available across the city. If you will be travelling to the capital for the marathon then London apartments could be the ideal option for your visit.

The London Marathon is one of the most famous sporting events in the world, which sees runners take on a 26.2 mile route through the heart of the city. Established in 1981, the Marathon is a gruelling test for the world’s top athletes, however it is also an opportunity for the average person to test their mettle. Arguably the best thing about the London Marathon is the amount of money that it raises for charity – it holds the record of being the largest annual fund raising event in the world. It has been estimated that since 1981 the London Marathon has managed to raise over £450,000,000.00 for charity. The marathon has it all from the best athletes in the world pushing themselves to the limit, to the casual runner raising a few quid for their favourite charity and perhaps wearing fancy dress. The London Marathon is a great day for spectators and participants alike.

If you will be coming to London for the marathon and want to find a London serviced apartment for your stay, then why not get in touch with us here at Serviced City Pads? You can send us your enquiry through the website or you can call our reservations team on 0844 335 8866.

Lucian Freud at the London National Portrait Gallery

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

Portrait painter Lucian Freud portrait work is shown from February 9th through to May 27th at London’s National Portrait Gallery, Jane McAdam Freud spent many months supporting her grandfather in preparing portraits for the show up to his death in 2011 where there will be 100 portrait paintings on show. I can recommend a stay in London to view this collection, we book a serviced apartment in London through Serviced City Pads who can be contacted on 0844 335 8866 where the reservations team will be delighted to help.
Lucian Freud was born in Berlin to Jewish parents who moved to Britain in the 1930’s due to the rise in the Nazism; in his early years he went to London Central School of Art and Goldsmith College where he developed his skills in portrait painting.
Freud’s early work is focused on surrealism and with people and animals being the painted form, which were created using thin layers of paint. Freud began to change his style completely to portraiture or nudes in the 1950’s; soon all of his work would be in this form. Freud would paint a range of people in his life: friends, family, fellow painters, lovers and children and the subject are autobiographical.
Freud is seen as one of Britain’s greatest portrait painters and I can recommend a trip to the National Portrait Gallery to view Lucian Freud’s life’s work, why not spend the weekend in London with Serviced City Pads for you London Apartment.

Where to Promenade Your Loved One in London

Monday, February 6th, 2012

Tuesday February the 14th will soon be upon us and what can be more romantic than to promenade the Capital with the love of your life in your arms. We have decided to spend the evening walking around London landmarks where we met and fell in love. We have booked a London apartment through Serviced City Pads who have access to apartments throughout London and can be contacted on 0844 335 8866 where one of the reservations team will be delighted to help you choose the the best apartment for your stay.
Myself and wife met back in the 1990’s when we both stayed and worked in London, we met initially through a friend at a bar in Hanover Square just near Oxford Circus and spent the evening discussing our love of music and theatre which we both shared a passion. We decided to get to know one another over the following few weeks and went walking and sunbathing in Green Park and walked across to Buckingham Palace where we watched the changing of the guard a Saturday summers afternoon. We then decided to walk down the Mall to Trafalgar Square to take in the idyllic feel where we walked arm in arm being in Love in the Capital. Serviced Apartments in London have become incredibly popular and more so that they have nearly fifty per cent more space than a hotel room and can often work out better value, so I have certainly made a change when I stay in London.
Needless to say I is thoroughly looking forward my romantic evening for Valentine’s Day.

Visit London and take part in the Richmond 10k Fun Run

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

It’s the timing of year to get back into shape and why not stay in London and visit the banks of the Thames in Richmond to indulge in a fun run for 10k.
I actually completed this race in March 2011 with some friends and spent a good couple of months training for the occasion, you will need to up early on the Sunday morning for the run to start at 9.30a sharp so we stayed in a Serviced Apartment in London in the West End and booked the 2 bedroom property through Serviced City Pads who have a large range of apartments throughout London and the reservations team can be contacted on 0844 335 8866.
When I arrived to registered there were a large amount of people of varying ages and standards so that gave me comfort to know that I would be in the middle of the group and in particular it would be an enjoyable experience. All the running is along the banks of the Thames at Richmond so not only is it good fun with large amount of people, you are also running along one of the most beautiful stretches of river in the world and I’m sure this adds to the electric atmosphere. I made a really clean start and at 5 kilometres felt really good however as we passed each marker when you hit 8k the pain starts to sink in and the last 2k weren’t the most enjoyable at all however we all made it in around 1 hour so no shame there. We also went back to my London Serviced Apartment to enjoy a good rest and most importantly a nice glass of Champagne Celebration.

Watch Matilda the Musical in London’s West End

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

The Royal Shakespeare Company of Matilda the musical has arrived at London’s West End Theatre land until Sun October 21 and a stay in London will not be complete unless you pop down to the Cambridge theatre to watch this thoroughly fantastic show. We booked our London Accommodation through Serviced City Pads who have a large range of London Apartments in the West End and the reservations team can be contacted on 0844 335 8866.
Matilda the musical is one of the best in years; it is originally set in a room of a pregnant woman who gives birth to a baby called Matilda and once born the doctor professes Matilda to be the most beautiful child in the world. Matilda is clearly a gifted intelligent child who lives with her humourless parents and gormless brother, Matilda is mocked for being intelligent gifted and different however she rises above these taunts and spend much of her time at the local library with the librarian Mrs Phelps. Serviced Apartments in London are becoming very popular with nearly fifty percent more space than a hotel room and they can often in our experience work out cheaper particularly for longer stays.
The musical unfolds where Matilda is a very confident child, so if she is scolded by her parents and other family members, she just gets her own back and normally makes them look so silly. I have been a visitor to London’s theatre land for many years and seen many shows from dramas through to musicals; I can thoroughly recommend this musical on stay in London.

View Leonardo da Vinci’s work in London at the National Gallery

Monday, January 30th, 2012

Leonardo da Vinci the Master Painter to the Court of Milan can be viewed at London’s National Gallery until Sunday 5th February where 9 of the 15 remaining paintings will be on display from the master genius painter. You can book a London Apartment through Serviced City Pads who will be delighted to select from a large range of London Serviced Apartment connected throughout the capital. You can contact the reservations team on 0844 335 8866 where a member of the team will send through apartment options linked to your requested size and budget.
Leonardo da Vinci was born in 1452 and raised in Florence who lays claim quite understandably the greatest painter of all time as he epitomized the Renaissance humanist ideal, his younger years were spent under the tutoridge of the renowned Florence painter Verrocchio. Leonardo undertook much work in Milan, Venice, Rome and Bologna. Among his works are Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, The Creation of Adam very few of his paintings survive due to his constant changes of pictures so many never stayed the same.
Leonardo is revered for his technological ingenuity. He conceptualized a helicopter, a tank, concentrated solar power, a calculator, the double hull, and he outlined a rudimentary theory of plate tectonics. Relatively few of his designs were constructed or were even feasible during his lifetime but some of his smaller inventions, such as an automated bobbin winder and a machine for testing the tensile strength of wire, entered the world of manufacturing unheralded. He made important discoveries in anatomy, civil engineering, optics, and hydrodynamics, but he did not publish his findings and they had no direct influence on later science.
Leonardo da Vinci is clearly a master in many forms from painting to engineering the man is almost superhuman and I can recommend a visit to the National Gallery and you will not be disappointed, why not after a glorious day return with a nice bottle of wine to your London Apartment to reflect on what might have been on your stay in London.

Accommodation for London International Mime Festival 2012

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

If you like to be entertained, but in a quieter fashion than usual, then why not head down to London in January for the 2012 International Mime Festival. Or even plan your trip for next year’s January 2013 event? The festival is the longest running of its kind in the world having first been established in 1977 and it was founded by esteemed international theatrists Joseph Seelig and Helen Lannaghan. Most people who arrive for the festival really enjoy their stay in London, so why not get down yourself and see what all the fuss is about?

The festival has got rave reviews from critics and is an excellent example of contemporary visual theatre. There are shows to suit all types of audiences; from high-end conceptual drama, to family friendly kids show and everything in between, there is plenty at the Mime Festival to entertain every body. The festival takes places over 6 venues across the city; Barbican Centre, Jacksons Lane, Royal Opera House, Roundhouse, Soho Theatre and the Southbank Centre. These are all located across the centre of London, but with the city’s excellent transport system, including the highly extensive tube network, then you are only a short ride away from any of the locations.

For anyone looking to travel down and get some accommodation in London, then you may be overwhelmed by the number of hotel options to choose from. However a type of accommodation a lot of people may not consider is booking a serviced apartment in London. With serviced apartments you can rent a whole apartment rather than just a hotel room, so you get more space, and also the use of your own kitchen and separate bedrooms. This means you aren’t limited to having to spend lots of money eating out in restaurants or sub-standard hotel food and you can sort yourself out! Whether you want to go all out and cook a full roast dinner, or you patience/skills are limited to whacking a frozen pizza in the oven, a serviced apartment would be great for anyone.

Visit Damien Hurst Show in London

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

The reknowned artist Damien Hurst will be showing his work in London at the Gagosian Britannia until February 8th 2012, I decided to take the Family on a weekend trip to London to see Damien’s work and booked a London Apartment through Serviced City Pads. The reservation team can be contacted on 0844 335 8866.

You can expect to see work from 1986 through to 2011, Damien Hursts work is internationally re-knowned and was part of the up and coming group ‘The Young British Artist’, he can be classed as the most famous British living artist and is worth an estimated over £200 million pounds. Damian’s central theme is ‘About Death’ and has completed many works of dead animals such as a shark, sheep and cow to name a few. One of my favourite pieces is ‘For the Love of God’ where he has a humans skull made completely out of diamonds however Damien Hurst is never far from opinion and several of his works have been questioned about being very similar to other artists works. My family and I will enjoy the weekend visiting the show and staying in London and a real enjoyable part of the trip will be the home away from home feeling of a serviced apartment in London.

Visit London for the Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee

Friday, January 20th, 2012

2012 marks the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II to the accession to the throne of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Queen Elizabeth succeeded her father King George VI there will be many special events taking place and to celebrate a Bank Holiday has been moved to June 4 as this will be the actual Queens birthday which will result in a 4 day honour holiday for the people of Great Britain so why not stay in london. I have made special plans to visit the capital to spend the whole four days celebrating the Queen. I have already chosen my London Apartment, booked through a very helpful company Serviced City Pads, you can contact the reservations team on 0844 335 8866.
A large event will be staged in London on that weekend, which is to include a diamond jubilee concert which we believe will be produced by the incredibly talented Gary Barlow who is the genius behind Take That and of course the most senior judge on the most watch show in television ‘The X Factor’. There will also be a maritime parade of boats and events along the River Thames on the 3rd of June, I belive this could be up to 1,000 boats which will be the largest flotilla on the river for 350 years and some 1 million people are expected to watch from the banks of the thames. The Queen will lead this flotilla in a specially designed Royal barge and I bielive this will be a most wonderful event.
The 2012 Olympic Park will also be named the Queen Elizabeth II Olympic Park, I’m so excited about this truly magical event, myself and the family will be staying in a Serviced Apartment in London.

London Serviced Apartments for Valentines Day

Friday, January 20th, 2012

If you’re struggling for ideas for what to do for Valentine’s Day 2012, then you would be hard pressed to think of a better plan than booking a serviced apartment in London for a night or two and taking in London’s romantic side for a while. Sometimes (but rarely) described as the ‘City of Lovers’ London has a certain je ne sais pas that many find alluring, tempting and somewhat lustworthy. Why not share this passion with a loved one or liked one and stay in London on Valentine’s Day?

Probably one of the most romantic areas of London for a young (or old) couple to stay would be West London, neighbourhoods such as Notting Hill, Kensington and Bayswater provide suitable urban backgrounds for lovers of any type. Many love-films have been based in the area including the High Grant hit Notting Hill which also starred American actress Julia Roberts. Why not recreate your own version of the film in some sort of role play game in a local book shop and really spice up your trip?

Hyde Park is a popular venue for Cupid-struck love kittens where one can stroll around the park, hand-in-hand with one’s soul mate whilst glancing across the Serpentine (a lake not a snake) and enjoying the green oasis in the centre of the sprawling urban labyrinth that is London. Be prepared to see young children kicking balls, jumpers for goals posts, gay kite flighers happily waltzing around string in hand, brass bands playing jolly tunes and birds singing harmonious tunes as natures orchestra serenades you down the gravel covered paths of Hyde Park.

If you’re looking for some accommodation in the city for Valentine’s Day, then why not try looking at booking some London serviced apartments so you can enjoy your stay whilst enjoying a home-from-home feel. With a fully fitted kitchen and separate bathroom and bedrooms you won’t feel squeezed in to 4 walls like you would in a prison-like hotel room and therefore heated lovers tiffs are more than likely to be less likely.
