Bibendum is the name of Michelin’s chubby mascot and his art deco image stares down as you tuck into a French-inspired menu, which also includes an oyster bar downstairs.

Nicknamed “Versace on acid”, it makes the Cafe Royal look like McDonald’s. The glistening chandeliers and gold ormolu are matched by an a la carte menu of up to 10 courses.  Alternatively, just pop in for afternoon Tiffin.

If it’s celebrity stardom you’re after, you’ll have to book well in advance for Ramsay’s restaurant – the only TV chef-owned restaurant to have earned the coveted Michelin 3 stars. Instead, head for Sticky Fingers. If you think it sounds like a Rolling Stones album, you’ll be right – it’s owned by Bill Wyman.
