Should civil servants stay in serviced apartments? - May 24th, 2010
New Chancellor George Osborne today outlined the first round of spending cuts that focussed primarily on the Civil Service.
Chris Rose, Managing Director at serviced apartment booking company Serviced City Pads commented, “It is interesting to see that savings on discretionary spending will amount to £1.5 Billion. The tone of the message is very much about cutting back on excess, including first class travel.
Of course, civil servants will still require accommodation around the UK and at Serviced City Pads we feel that the civil service should begin to consider using serviced apartments rather than staying in a hotel. Staying in a 2 bedroom serviced apartment will immediately slash costs by up to 50%. If there are 2 colleagues working away then the cost savings of staying in an apartment v a hotell room can be considerable.
Staying in an apartment and saving money would fall in line with David Laws comment that the “years of public sector plenty are over”. A chilling reality check will be spreading through Whitehall, and we believe that companies such as Serviced City Pads can help in the quest to save money.
Serviced City Pads acts as a one stop shop account management service for the booking of serviced apartment accommodation around the UK. As well as reducing costs for our client, we also aim to take the pain out of the accommodation booking process which we realise can be a rather dull process and one that takes vital time out of the clients day. Clients who use Serviced City Pads are able to concentrate on their core business, whilst we organise their serviced apartment accommodation.
We will speak with civil service representatives to understand how we can help with their accommodation needs going forward.
