London Apartments for the Peter Pan Cup at Christmas

Friday, August 26th, 2011

For anyone visiting London and looking for some London accommodation, if you’ve never tried them already, then why not have a look at booking a London serviced apartment for your stay. Instead of the usual hotels and hostels that might at first pop into mind, London holiday apartments are becoming an increasingly popular option for visitors to the city. Whether they are a couple looking for a city break, a family visiting for a few days or business travellers staying during the week, serviced apartments are flexible enough to cope with the demands of every type of guest.

If you’re visiting London over Christmas for whatever reason, and you like to sometimes do and see things a little out of the ordinary, then on Christmas morning get yourself down to Hyde Park to an intriguing sporting spectacle. While most people will either still be tucked up in bed or working their way through the presents, members of the Serpentine Swimming Club will be plunging themselves in to the icy waters of The Serpentine, the lake in the middle of Hyde Park in Central London. This is an odd tradition that has been going since Christmas Day 1864, and it shows no signs of stopping now. The waters can reach temperatures of below four degrees in winter, so the swimmers will not want to stay still for any length of time. They take part in this crazy race for a chance to be the proud holder of the Peter Pan Cup named after J.M Barrie, the creator of the story of the boy who refused to grow up. He was a patron of the race and presented the first ever cup, so the name has stuck ever since.

There’s always a jolly crowd gathered at the lake to witness the spectacle and it’s a great way to get some fresh air on Christmas morning. A bit of a walk on the morning will help ease the burden of all calories that will be consumed later in the day! Hyde Park provides a wonderful wintry landscape, if you’re lucky there might be a layer of snow on the ground which will make it all the more scenic for the spectators, however the swimmers might not appreciate the icy temperatures so much. The race itself is a 100 yard sprint for the swimmers. It starts at 9.00am on 25th December, a nice early start for all involved. The race itself is only open to members of the Serpentine Swimming Club who must have competed in the entire Winter Series to take part. If you’re heading down on Christmas morning, it all starts on the South Bank close to The Lido Cafe. Just make sure you wrap up warm!

If you’re not lucky enough to know someone who lives close to Hyde Park and has a spare bed/sofa, then you’ll be looking for some London accommodation when you make the pilgrimage to Hyde Park on Christmas morning and you’re probably best staying for a few days to make the most of it. A London serviced apartment or London aparthotel would be the ideal choice for this sort of stay as an apartment gives you so much more space than an equivalent hotel. With plenty of space to enjoy and more rooms also, so if you’re travelling in a group you can all get in the one apartment rather than being split across a few rooms. Try Serviced City Pads for a great range of London apartments for short-term stays.

Russell Howard is one of the most famous comics in Britain today. As his profile has grown, he has gained his own hit show, BBC3’s “Russell Howard’s Good News”. “Good News” sums up Howard’s appeal – while other comedians will be fashionably sarcastic, sneering and nihilistic, Howard brings warmth and good humour to his comedy which makes a refreshing change.

Serviced apartments for London’s Greenwich Comedy Festival

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Serviced City Pads have a wide range of serviced apartments in London available through our apartment operators. If you are going to be visiting London for the Greenwich Comedy Festival, why not take a look at serviced apartments for your stay?

The Greenwich Comedy Festival will be taking place in London’s Old Royal Naval College from the 5th – 11th September 2011. The festival will be hosting a wealth of comedic talent, with big names such as Sean Lock and Omid Djalili performing. There will also be the chance to see some of the rising talents such as musical funnyman Tim Minchin and panel-show favourite Milton Jones. The Greenwich Comedy Festival won’t just be stand up comedy alone – there will be a lot of other things happening that will make it a great week. At the venue there is a food quarter and bars to stop you going hungry. There will also be a silent disco, people on stilts, jugglers, clowns, and burlesque and cabaret shows – it certainly shouldn’t be dull!

If the Serviced City Pads blog is able to attend, the one comedian we will be making a beeline for is Adam Buxton. He is one half of television’s Adam & Joe. The “Adam & Joe Show” was classic low budget comedy – anyone who has ever seen their stuffed toy re-imagining of “Trainspotting” (entitled “Toyspotting”) will always have a place in their heart for Mr Buxton. Also, who can forget his alter-ego, the pioneering art house auteur, Ken Korda, and his simply brilliant “Speeding on the Needle Bliss.”

If you are going to be one of those lucky enough to come to London and attend the Greenwich Comedy Festival, then you might be looking at accommodation for your visit. Here at Serviced City Pads, we have a wide range of serviced apartments available in London through our apartment operators. Serviced apartments are a great alternative to the typical hotel room, as they can offer far more space and comfort at a competitive price. The typical apartment has a lounge / dining area which is a great space for friends or family to relax together. There is also a kitchen area so you can prepare a meal – you can enjoy the comforts of home away from home. You can see the serviced apartments available in London by visiting the London city page on our website.

So, if you are coming to London this September, why not look at staying in a serviced apartment? You can contact us here at Serviced City Pads to see what is available for your visit. You can call us on 0844-335-8866, or you can send an enquiry through our website and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

London will know what The Matrix is this October…

Monday, July 18th, 2011

The Serviced City Pads blog often draws your attention to events in film, and there is something happening in London this October at the Royal Albert Hall that we are eager to take a look at for today’s blog.

The Serviced City Pads blog is a keen fan of science fiction, and 1999’s “The Matrix” is a film that is assured of its place among the all-time greatest sci-fi films ever made. The film tells the story of a young man who works in a dull office job by day, whilst at night he is the infamous hacker Neo who is desperately trying to discover the answer to one question: What is the Matrix? The film sees Neo’s life turned upside down as he meets someone who can provide the answer to this question. In case you haven’t already seen this masterpiece, the Serviced City Pads blog doesn’t want to say too much more than this about the story – you should come to the Royal Albert Hall and see for yourself. If you’ve yet to see this movie, then you’re in for a real treat.

For those of us who have already seen “The Matrix” this is a chance to see it again on the big screen. You’ll be able to see all those amazing fight scenes and special effects the way they should be seen. Also, as if this was not enough, there is also going to be the added bonus of the NDR Pops Orchestra performing the score live while the film is played. It should be an incredible evening for fans of “The Matrix” and newcomers alike.

This special screening will be taking place at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 23rd October 2011.

If you’re going to be visiting London this October, perhaps you would like to contact us here at Serviced City Pads about accommodation for your visit. On the Serviced City Pads website, you can see all the different types of serviced apartments available in London through our apartment operators. These apartments are spacious and comfortable and can accommodate anything from one person to families or larger groups. Serviced apartments are the increasingly popular alternative to hotels, providing space and comfort at a competitive price.

Rihanna’s European tour hits London

Friday, June 24th, 2011

The Serviced City Pads blog likes great pop music as much as everyone else, so we’re also rather excited about the subject of today’s blog – the pop icon Rihanna.

Rihanna will be coming back to London later this year with her “Loud Tour” 2011, to promote the album of the same name. The Barbados born pop-sensation has always said how much she enjoys playing shows in the U.K., and it seems that the fans feel the same way. Rihanna will be making three separate visits to these shores as part of her European tour as many extra dates were added due to the phenomenal demand.

Rihanna will be playing the O2 arena in London in October (5th and 6th), November (13th, 14th, and 15th), and then again in December (1st, 20th, 21st, and 22nd) later this year. The sheer number of shows in London alone demonstrates how she has taken her place among pop royalty – the “Loud” album has seen yet another number 1 smash in the form of “What’s My Name” adding to what is now a formidable back catalogue of hits that anyone lucky enough to have tickets to these shows will get to see live.

If you will be coming to London to see Rihanna, you are probably thinking about accommodation for your visit. Here at Serviced City Pads we have a wide range of serviced apartments that can accommodate anything from single travellers to families and groups of friends. Serviced apartments offer more space and comfort than the traditional hotel room and at competitive prices. Serviced apartments will have a living and dining area where friends and families can sit together – if you’re looking for a place where you can relax as a group, then an apartment is a great choice.

To enquire about a stay in London, you can call us on 0844-335-8866 and one of our reservations team will be happy to help. Alternatively, you can submit an enquiry through our website and we will respond as soon as possible.

Secure Olympic accommodation with Serviced City Pads

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

With the tickets in such high demand ensure its not also a ballot for your accommodation.

London 2012 organisers said they were “thrilled” after revealing they had received applications for more than 20m Olympics tickets during the first phase of sales.

Our serviced apartments in London offer a great alternative to hotels. The London serviced accommodation we offer is value for money and will allow you the freedom that hotels can not. If you wish to come on a trip to London then call our reservations team today on 08443358866. Serviced City Pads are the premier booking agency for serviced accommodation in London and across the UK. Many of our apartments are available to book online. We can also offer you a personal booking service from a team with strong local knowledge.

More than half of the 650 sessions are already oversubscribed at the end of the first round of ticket sales, with track cycling, rhythmic gymnastics, triathlon and the equestrian cross country among the first sports to sell out.

The opening ceremony, for which tickets range from £20.12 to £2,012, was the most popular event and was more than 10 times oversubscribed. Successful applicants will have money taken from their accounts between 10 May and 10 June and will be notified which tickets they will receive before 24 June.

Track cycling, in which Team GB won an unprecedented eight gold medals in Beijing, was always expected to be among the hottest tickets, as were the opening and closing ceremonies.

But some of the other sports to sell out are more surprising. They include rhythmic gymnastics, modern pentathlon, the cross country equestrian events in Greenwich Park and the triathlon in Hyde Park. All have a committed following, a limited number of sessions and tend to be reasonably priced. Locog said that most swimming and tennis sessions had also sold out.

If you or anybody you know is coming to the capital for the Olympics or for anything else then try staying in one of our serviced apartments. They are more comfortable and more spacious than a hotel room, allowing you and your friends a place to relax and cater for yourselves. Serviced City Pads have apartments throughout the UK. One of our London apartments could be exactly what you’re looking for. Get in touch and see what we can find for your visit to London. You can send us an email or you can call 08443358866 to talk to one of our reservations team who will be happy to help you find an apartment.

Business in London

Friday, April 9th, 2010

London is one of the most expensive cities in the world, attracting thousands of visitors worldwide every day. It hosts a vast array of entertainment and museums as well as boasting spectacular landmarks such as the London Eye. It is perhaps no wonder that it is at the centre of international commerce, with local airports making access from anywhere in the world relatively easy.

Many businesses have dealings in London at some stage and many have employees who may have to relocate there for business purposes. Corporate accommodation in London is expensive, and even the cheap hotels can seem expensive, with stays for more than one night seeming extortionate. If your business isn’t based in London it can be quite a complex task trying to source corporate accommodation in London that is of a high quality, but reasonably priced.

Here at Serviced City Pads we provide corporate accommodation in London that is spacious, and of a very high quality. An apartment gives you or your employees a solid base from which to work or entertain clients in style. Rather than hire rooms for your corporate meetings you can make use of all the space in our serviced apartments in London, which will be economical as well as comfortable for your business guests.

Corporate accommodation should be of a standard that makes your stay in London easier, enabling you to concentrate on your work without distraction whilst also providing a homely atmosphere, enabling you to relax and unwind when your working day is over.

A Michelin star for Gloucester Road

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

We at Serviced City Pads have some beautifully appointed serviced apartments in London, with our Apart Hotel in Gloucester Road, South Kensington, being particularly popular with food lovers, being in London’s most prestigious restaurant area.

Bibendum, in Fulham Road, couldn’t be in a better position for a restaurant: it’s located on the first floor of Michelin House – a splendid art deco building that was, until 1985, the UK headquarters of the famous French tyre manufacturers. Bibendum is the name of Michelin’s chubby mascot and his art deco image stares down as you tuck into a French-inspired menu, which also includes an oyster bar downstairs.

If you don’t want to travel that far, then our serviced apartments in London’s Gloucester Road are close to the equally prestigious 1880 at the Bentley hotel. Nicknamed “Versace on acid”, it makes the Cafe Royal look like McDonald’s. The glistening chandeliers and gold ormolu are matched by an a la carte menu of up to 10 courses.  Alternatively, just pop in for afternoon Tiffin.

If it’s celebrity stardom you’re after, you’ll have to book well in advance for Ramsay’s restaurant – the only TV chef-owned restaurant to have earned the coveted Michelin 3 stars. Instead, head for Sticky Fingers. If you think it sounds like a Rolling Stones album, you’ll be right – it’s owned by Bill Wyman.

Our luxury serviced apartments in London come complete with kitchens. With restaurants like these on the doorstep, it’s not surprising most people eat out.

Focus on London Albertopolis

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

We at Serviced City Pads have some excellent Apart Hotel accommodation in London’s attractive Gloucester Road, one of several locations in London’s prestigious Albertopolis district. So named because of its association with Prince Albert, this is London’s major centre for culture and learning.

Those renting London serviced apartments here can enjoy the benefits of the Victoria and Albert Museum (close to the Royal Albert Hall); the Geology Museum; the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum. Other places of interest include the Queen’s Tower (the water tower of the Imperial Institute, the rest of which has been sadly demolished), the Albert Memorial and the Royal Albert Hall. Short distances away are London’s famous green spaces of Hyde Park, Green Park and Kensington Gardens, and there are serviced London apartments available near these areas.

For retail therapy, you are spoilt for choice – Park Lane, Sloane Square, Kings Road, Knightsbridge and Harrods are all within easy reach, while eateries include restaurants run by TV’s most outspoken chef – Gordon Ramsay.

Albertopolis sounds like the kind of “yuppie” name that would have been dreamed up in the 1980s, but in fact it was coined in 1851 – a satirical reference to Prince Albert’s involvement with the Great Exhibition. As President of the Royal Commission for the Exhibition, it was he who enabled profits from this venture to purchase the land, and erect the commanding “seats of culture and learning” which people visit today.

Following Albert’s death, the area became known as South Kensington. It was during the “Noughties” that Albertopolis became a fashionable term again. Today, people rent luxury serviced apartments in London’s Albertopolis for learning, pleasure and work – the museums can also be booked as meeting venues.
