Visit Birmingham Museum of the Jewellery Quarter

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Did you know that that this Museum in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter is open all year? This museum was originally a jewellery manufacturing company called Smith and Pepper and tells the rich history of Birmingham as a centre for traditional jewellery making skills.

We would recommend that if you are planning a weekend in Birmingham or even if you happen to be working in Birmingham, then you should consider making a trip to this Museum which is situated to the West of Birmingham city centre. It’s not far to travel to if you are staying in a serviced apartment in Birmingham or even if you happen to be in a Birmingham hotel. Sometimes it’s just nice to be able to get away from the city centre. St. Geroge’s Park is also nearby. You can walk around the fine old architecture of the streets of the Jewellery Quarter and just imagine what a thriving industry this must have been. Infact, Birmingham is still seen as one of the best places to buy wedding and engagement rings, perhaps only second to Hatton Garden in London. Obviously travelling to Birmingham is a much better option than heading down to London if you are just going for the day (and live in the north of England or Scotland).

Serviced City Pads has a number of accommodation options to choose from in Birmingham, all situated in and around the city centre. Birmingham is becoming a more popular city break destination than previously, due in no small part to the ongoing regeneration that the city has seen over the previous decade.

If you are interested in staying in a serviced apartment in Birmingham whether that’s for a weekend or more, then call Serviced City Pads on 0844 335 8866, and make sure that you include a trip to this fantastic museum as part of your itinerary.

Conservative party conference accommodation Birmingham

Monday, July 26th, 2010

The ICC Birmingham claims to be the premier conference venue in the UK and is handily situated in Birmingham, in the heart of the UK. 2010 sees the Conservative Party holding their annual conference at the ICC between Sunday 3rd October and Wednesday 6th October. To book your conference accommodation in Birmingham please contact Serviced City Pads by email at info@servicedcitypads.com.

But what is it that has attracted the Conservative party to hold their annual conference in Birmingham and what is it like to stay in a serviced apartment or hotel in Birmingham for a conference delefate?

At Serviced City Pads we think that Birmingham is a tremendous city that has made incredible strides following large investment over the past few years. Visit Birmingham today and you will find a thriving commercial hub with a fantastic shopping centre, plenty of bars and restaurants, with a wide variety of choices of accommodation in Birmingham city centre.

The ICC itself stages more than 400 events every year, although it is probably fair to say that there is non more prestigious than the Conservative party conference, which will be the focus of the national media and where David Cameron will make his first conference speech as British Prime Minister. The conference centre is situated on the fringe of Birmingham city centre, so if you decide to stay in a Birmingham serviced apartment then you will find yourself just a short stroll from conference venue.

Serviced City Pads is a specialist booking company with a wide range of serviced apartments in Birmingham city centre. The apartments offer a range of options and suit an array of tastes and budgets. If you are planning to stay in Birmingham for the first time we will be happy to point you in the right direction when it comes to restaurants in Birmingham and any other activities as well as organising your Birmingham conference accommodation. In terms of accessibility, Birmingham is probably the easiest city to reach from anywhere else in the country, just a couple of hours north of London and within two hours of Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds.

At Serviced City Pads we have noticed that hotels and serviced apartments get booked up very quickly in advance when their is a major conference in town and we anticipate that this time the hotels in Birmingham will get booked up quicker than ever as it is effectively a victory conference for the Conservatives, although we don’t anticpate much is a triumphant atmosphere as Mr Cameron will be keen to emphasis the economic problems that the country faces. That’s probably a good reason to book spacious and good value serviced apartments in Birmingham, but that’s another story!

Birmingham Accommodation for Premiership Football

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Birmingham has always been a city with football heritage. Aston Villa is one of just 5 British teams to have won the European Cup, the world’s most prestigious club football competition. As well as 7 English First Division titles and 7 FA cup wins and numerous other smaller honours, they are one of England’s most successful clubs. However in the last 2 decades they’ve only managed a pair of League Cup wins and have not been close to challenging for the league title. Birmingham City as well have spent a lot of time in the last few decades in the 2nd division, also with a few stints in the 3rd tier of English football. West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers both have also spent a lot of time in the last few decades in the 2nd tier of English football despite having 4 league titles and 9 FA Cups between them.

When fans come to watch their team playing in Birmingham, many like to stay a night and enjoy the city rather than the stress of trying to get home in the evening through the dreaded football traffic. Birmingham has undergone a bit of a regeneration program and is now a dynamic and vibrant place for visitors. There are plenty of options for accommodation in Birmingham including Serviced Apartments, which are a great way to enjoy executive accommodation and space at great value prices. A serviced apartment allows you more 50% more space, much greater privacy and can provide great value for money when compared with similar specification hotels and for these reasons short stay apartments are quickly becoming a preferred alternative to staying in a hotel in Birmingham.

Football in Birmingham looks to be on the way up however. In the 2010/2011 season, there will be 4 teams representing Birmingham in the Premier League. Aston Villa, under the leadership of Martin O’Neill, have had been enjoying relative success the last few seasons, qualifying for the Europa League, having some great cup runs and challenging for the 4th Champions League spot. Birmingham City have had a brilliant first season back in the Premiership securing a top half finish, and will be looking to cement their place in the top league for years to come. Wolves also newly promoted have achieved their goal of survival and will also be looking to cement a place in the top league where they believe that they belong. Mick McCarthy has done a great job there and seems to be the right man to keep them there for years to come. As for West Brom, they have become the Premiership’s yo-yo club and after another successful immediate promotion, will feel they are better places than ever to stay in the lucrative Premier League.

So next season there will be 4 teams from Birmingham and a total of 12 Birmingham Derbies, which means a lot more people will be travelling to the countries central city to watch games. When looking for accommodation, why not give Serviced City Pads a ring as they can find the best options for Serviced Apartments that are suitable for your requirements. If you like the practicality and service of a hotel but want the space and freedom of an apartment, Serviced City Pads can help you find the right accommodation for your stay in Birmingham.

Adding new serviced apartments Birmingham

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Serviced City Pads is the Liverpool based company that specialises in the booking of serviced apartments in many locations across the UK. With strong organic listings in both Manchester and Liverpool, the company is growing and seeing it’s Google rankings improve in Birmingham, London and Edinburgh.

Chris Rose, Managing Director at Serviced City Pads commented, “We are working in a competitive industry. It is really important that potential customers; whether they are leisure visitors to Birmingham or corporate clients working in London; can find us. It’s not only about these people finding Serviced City Pads, we need to have the market presence that enables the guest to trust our brand. It is all very well appearing in the “Sponsored Links” section of Google. These ads are paid for and many customers are aware of this. I don’t think you can sustain a growing business by only having sponsored links.

Of course, this becomes self fulfilling, as our website becomes more trusted the more people will visit and it then becomes more trusted by virtue of an improved ranking for the most pertinent searches.

The Servicd City Pads website now stands on the cusp of page 1 for the seach term “serviced apartments Birmingham” which will mean that the volume of traffic (guests) looking for accommodation in Birmingham will begin to rise. This means that we have to sharpen our customer offering of Birmingham apartments

As well as looking to add to the listings of serviced apartments in Birmingham to our site, we will be speaking to our current operators about enabling current listings to book online. We are finding more and more of our apartment bookings (particularly leisure visitors) are coming directly from the website. It isn’t a difficult or time consuming job for serviced apartment operators in Birmingham to maintain availability online at www.servicedcitypads.com. In turn this really increases the credibility of the company with the customer.

We believe that Birmingham offers a great opportunity to grow our business. City breaks in Birmingham aren’t in the same league as with somewhere like Edinburgh or London. However, the big opportunity is for people visiting Birmingham for a conference or staying in Birminhgam with work. The corporate accommodation market in Birmingham is much bigger than in Liverpool or Manchester.”

If you own or manage serviced apartments in Birmingham and don’t currently have your apartments listed with Serviced City Pads, then please give us a call on 0844 335 8866. Listing your apartments with us is FREE of charge and rates of commission are very competitive.

The university is ranked 10th nationally by the Times Newspaper in the UK in 2008, the University is ranked high in the fields of music, physics, biosciences, computer science, mechanical engineering, European Studies and law. Serviced Apartments are quickly seen as a great alternative to Hotels in Birmingham

Although the earliest begginnings of the University were previously traced back to the Birmingham Medical School which is linked to William Sands Cox in his aim of creating a medical school along strictly Christian Lines, unlike the London medical schools. Further research has now revealed the roots of the Birmingham Medical School in the medical education seminars of Mr John Tomlinson the first surgeon to the Birmingham Workhouse Infirmary, and later to the General Hospital. These classes were the first ever held outside London or south of the scottish border in the winter of 1767 – 68. The first clinical teaching was undertaken by the medical and surgical apprentices at the General Hospital, opened in 1779. The medical school which grew out of Birmingham workhouse infirmary was founded in 1828 but Cox began teaching in December 1825. Queen Victoria granted her patronage to the Clinical Hospital in Birmingham and allowed it to be styled ’The Queens Hospital’. It was the first provincial teaching hospital in England. In 1843 the medical college became known as Queens College.

The university has been invloved in many important inventions and developments in science. The cavity magnetron was developed at th university in the Physics Department by John Randall, Harry Boot and Jim Sayers. This was vital to the Allied victory in World War II. In 1940, the Frisch-Peierls memorandum, a document which demostrated that the atomic bomb was more than simply theoretically possible, was written in the Physics Department. The university also hasted early work on Gaseous diffusion in the Chemistry department when it was located in the Hills building. Many windows in the Aston Webb building overlooking the former fume cupboards were opaque from being attacked by hydroflupric acid well recent years. Astn Villa Football Club was founded in 1874 and have played at their current home ground, Villa Park since 1897. Aston Villa were founder members of The Football League in 1888. They were also founder members of the Premier League in 1992. The club was floated by the previous owner and Chairman Doug Ellis, but in 2006 full control of the club was acquired by Randy Lerner.

After 23 years years as Chairman and single biggest shareholder (approximately 38%), Ellis finally decided to sell his stake in Aston Villa due to ill health. After much speculation it was announced the club was to be bought by the American Businessman Randy Lerner, owner of the NFL franchise the Cleveland Browns. The arrival of the new owner and manager Martin O’Neill marked the start of a new period of optimism at Villa Park and sweeping changes occurred throughout the club including a new crest, a new kit sponsor and team changes in the summer of 2007. Visit Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Birmingham’s Botanical Gardens is one of its most visited locations in Birmingham. You will find beauty, peace and tranquillity combined with breath-taking displays of nature to be discovered in the gardens and glasshouses.
The main glasshouse, situated in the centre of the gardens has the most varied collection of diverse plants in a small apace compared to other parts of the Gardens. The hot humid atmosphere is just right to simulate the conditions needed for these equatorial plants. Walking through this glasshouse gives visitors the sense of a tropical rainforest feel.
The main Lawn is especially popular in the summer for picnics and is indeed the hub of the gardens, inviting visitors to leave the formal terrace and explore the more remote regions beyond.
If you prefer quieter surroundings then you may want to visit the red-brick cottage, manifesting a medley of architectural styles. The cottage provides a natural setting for a collection of old favourite plants reminiscent, at least in the public imaginations of the cottage gardens of the last century.
There is something for all the family to enjoy at the botanical gardens, while the parents anjoy a nice stroll through the gardens, the kids can enjoy this ‘hands on’ interactive garden. The Garden is designed in the shape of a flower. The entrance, via a willow tunnel, takes visitors up the stem path to the flower. Here, each petal contains interactive exhibits where children can get a real ‘feel’ for the natural world.
If you are visiting Birmingham Botanical Gardens, or for any other attraction or events in the city, then why not stay in a serviced apartment in Birmingham city centre.
