Lucian Freud at the London National Portrait Gallery

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

Portrait painter Lucian Freud portrait work is shown from February 9th through to May 27th at London’s National Portrait Gallery, Jane McAdam Freud spent many months supporting her grandfather in preparing portraits for the show up to his death in 2011 where there will be 100 portrait paintings on show. I can recommend a stay in London to view this collection, we book a serviced apartment in London through Serviced City Pads who can be contacted on 0844 335 8866 where the reservations team will be delighted to help.
Lucian Freud was born in Berlin to Jewish parents who moved to Britain in the 1930’s due to the rise in the Nazism; in his early years he went to London Central School of Art and Goldsmith College where he developed his skills in portrait painting.
Freud’s early work is focused on surrealism and with people and animals being the painted form, which were created using thin layers of paint. Freud began to change his style completely to portraiture or nudes in the 1950’s; soon all of his work would be in this form. Freud would paint a range of people in his life: friends, family, fellow painters, lovers and children and the subject are autobiographical.
Freud is seen as one of Britain’s greatest portrait painters and I can recommend a trip to the National Portrait Gallery to view Lucian Freud’s life’s work, why not spend the weekend in London with Serviced City Pads for you London Apartment.

Visit London and take part in the Richmond 10k Fun Run

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

It’s the timing of year to get back into shape and why not stay in London and visit the banks of the Thames in Richmond to indulge in a fun run for 10k.
I actually completed this race in March 2011 with some friends and spent a good couple of months training for the occasion, you will need to up early on the Sunday morning for the run to start at 9.30a sharp so we stayed in a Serviced Apartment in London in the West End and booked the 2 bedroom property through Serviced City Pads who have a large range of apartments throughout London and the reservations team can be contacted on 0844 335 8866.
When I arrived to registered there were a large amount of people of varying ages and standards so that gave me comfort to know that I would be in the middle of the group and in particular it would be an enjoyable experience. All the running is along the banks of the Thames at Richmond so not only is it good fun with large amount of people, you are also running along one of the most beautiful stretches of river in the world and I’m sure this adds to the electric atmosphere. I made a really clean start and at 5 kilometres felt really good however as we passed each marker when you hit 8k the pain starts to sink in and the last 2k weren’t the most enjoyable at all however we all made it in around 1 hour so no shame there. We also went back to my London Serviced Apartment to enjoy a good rest and most importantly a nice glass of Champagne Celebration.

Visit London for the Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee

Friday, January 20th, 2012

2012 marks the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II to the accession to the throne of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Queen Elizabeth succeeded her father King George VI there will be many special events taking place and to celebrate a Bank Holiday has been moved to June 4 as this will be the actual Queens birthday which will result in a 4 day honour holiday for the people of Great Britain so why not stay in london. I have made special plans to visit the capital to spend the whole four days celebrating the Queen. I have already chosen my London Apartment, booked through a very helpful company Serviced City Pads, you can contact the reservations team on 0844 335 8866.
A large event will be staged in London on that weekend, which is to include a diamond jubilee concert which we believe will be produced by the incredibly talented Gary Barlow who is the genius behind Take That and of course the most senior judge on the most watch show in television ‘The X Factor’. There will also be a maritime parade of boats and events along the River Thames on the 3rd of June, I belive this could be up to 1,000 boats which will be the largest flotilla on the river for 350 years and some 1 million people are expected to watch from the banks of the thames. The Queen will lead this flotilla in a specially designed Royal barge and I bielive this will be a most wonderful event.
The 2012 Olympic Park will also be named the Queen Elizabeth II Olympic Park, I’m so excited about this truly magical event, myself and the family will be staying in a Serviced Apartment in London.

Enjoy the Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree

Friday, December 16th, 2011

A really great recommendation this Christmas is a visit to Trafalgar Square which is a magical Winter Wonderland, I decided to take the family down and stay in London where we could make a weekend event.
Trafalgar Square at Christmas has a huge tree which has been donated to the City of London as a gift since 1947 by the City of Oslo for Great Britain’s support during the second world war, each year the Mayor of London (currently the Conservative politician Boris Johnson) visit a forrest just outside the City of Oslo to help select the tree to spend it’s Christmas in Trafalgar Square in Central London.
We left our London Apartment on route to Trafalgar Square to watch the Christmas tree with hundreds of lights, there were a huge amount of Carol singers who also are great at supporting charities at Christmas, I, wife and family sang along to all the great carols and had a wonderful time. After several hours wondering the square we then headed back to our London Serviced Apartment. The Trafalgar Square Christmas tree is taken down on the 12th night of Christmas.

The Thames in London is a Great River

Monday, November 28th, 2011

I have recently returned from a stay in West London to visit a friend who lives in there, after a really nice trip down on the train from Manchester surprisingly quick and hassle free I arrived in just over two hours.
I jumped on the train to West London and Teddington in particular to spend a relaxing day with a university friend who has resided there for many years, he also has developed a passion for fishing. I decided to stay in a London Serviced Apartment as an alternative to a Hotel for myself and wife to enjoy more spacious accommodation.
We walked down to Teddington Lock whilst discussing my stay in London, the tide was out so we walked across the bridge, the views were wonderful and there were many boats mored in the centre of the thames river. My friend unravelled this rather impressive fishing rod to catch the best fish possible, we spent only 1 hour on the river with a flask of thermos we had the success of catching a very large pike.
Standing on the bank of the thames with fantastic view down on Teddington Lock, we had a wonderful day and were full of spirits on route back to our London Apartment.

Why You should Visit London’s Christmas Markets

Monday, November 28th, 2011

It that time of year when you start to think about visiting central London to purchase all the families Christmas present, this year you should definitely make a special trip to London’s Christmas Market’s. I personally went along to see what was on offer at the markets so left my London apartment to explore what was on offer.
The Christmas market’s have been in London for a couple of years, nearly all of the traders have come over Germany, French, Belgian. Italy whose Christmas markets are legendary and the majority of the products originate from these countries. Some of the products on sale at the stalls are refreshments such as Gluhwein which consists of usually a cheap bottle of red wine, sugar, whole gloves, ground cinnamon and juices from 1 whole orange. I tried some on a cold winters night and it felt really warm and comforting however I didn’t indulge too much. Next stop was some food and what about a really tasty German Sausage in a finger bun with lots of Dijon mustard absolutely fantastic . I still had some room for something sweet so went through Dutch Pancake stand surprisingly manned by a lovely Belgian couple. I have a couple of pancakes with syrup and ice cream. If you wish to purchase food you can buy fine continental Dutch Cheeses, French Breads and Spanish Chirizo.
Once we’d had a drink and food we then went on to enjoy the may crafts stalls dotted around the markets, most of the stalls are open until 9.00pm in the evening so we had a thoroughly wonderful evening. We booked our stay in London in a London Serviced Apartment which has become a great alternative to a hotel.

Serviced City Pads supply a large range of London Serviced Apartments throughout London you can contact the reservations team who can help you choose the right apartment for your London Stay. London is a very popular destination for guests from either the UK or from around the world, London Serviced Apartments are proving very popular with families and leisure guests due to the fifty percent increase in space and also the brilliant option to purchase food fom the local supermarket and cook in the kitchen, the feedback from the guests is this almost home away from home. London Serviced Apartments are becoming a must if your on leisure visit to London from one nights upwards. My experience with Tintan has been the many comic books read throughout my childhood who were created by the Belgian Artist Georges Remi, Tintin is a reporter who sources stories thorughout the world with his trusted fox terrier named Snowy, in later editions Tintin’s merry band of brothers also includes hearing impaired Professor Calculus, incompetent detectives Thompson and Thompson. Another great inclusion in many stories is Georges Remi himself strictly in the background of course.

Serviced City Pads offer London Serviced Apartments on a long or short term stay from one night thorugh to many months even years if a guests just love the city, there are many cinemas throughout London to watch films and enjoys your stay.Tintin is a young reporter and some stories are based in the Russian uprising and World War II and even during the 1960’s moon landings. Though Tintin’s adventures are formulaic presenting a mystery which is then solved logically Georges who wrought under he name of Herge infused the strip with his own sense of humour, and creating supporting characters who although predicatable, were filled with charm that allowed the reader to engage with them. Herge also had a great understanding of the mechanics of the comic strip, especially pacing, a skill displayed in The Casting Emerald, a work he meant to be packed with tension in which nothing actually happens. I believe this film will be the first of many tales of the wonderful Tintin and his merry band of friends as they travel throughout the world reporting on true excitement. The new film of Tintin opens to the general public on the 26th of October 2011, this is the full UK release date.

Visit London’s Art Exhibitions and stay in a London Serviced Apartment

Serviced City Pads supply a large range of London Serviced Apartments throughout London as a great alternative to London Hotels, you can stay in a London Serviced Apartment from one night through to several years, bookings can be made through the reservations team for leisure or corporate stays. A really good Art Exihibition to visit right now is Grayson Perry who is exhibiting at the British Museum with his show ‘The Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman’ this show is on now until February 12th 2012. Grayson Perry is the enfant terrible of the UK Art World with an interesting character to boot, Gryason is known for his ceramic vases and more interestingly his cross dressing which I found most interesting as when dressed as a femaile Perry goes by the name of Claire. Grayson’s vases are decorated in bright colours, depicting subjects at odds with their attractive appearance and Perry was awarded the Turner Prize in 2003.

Many London Apartments are perfect for leisure bookings particularly for families where the price can work out cheaper with the use of sofabeds in the lounge, families find that a London Serviced Apartment can make their stay cheaper by purchasing food and products in the local supermarket to cook in the apartment kitchen. Many famileis use a London Serviced Apartmentas for a London City Break where they will take their children to London for the first time to see all the wonderful sights London has to offer like Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament.Perry has spent many years working with clay because he was drawn to the desire to make an honest pot more interesting and exciting where he looks to several ceramic traditons including Greek pottery and folk art and wants the pot to have a certain humility and he quoted that ‘ the shape has to be classical invisble: then you have base that people can understand’. The real attraction to his work that they include ‘glazing, incision, embossing, andn the use of photographic transfers’ which require several firings.
