Strictly Come Dancing has been waltzing into our homes every year on Saturday nights since 2004 and is now on its 9^th series. Also known in America as Dancing with the Stars, Strictly Come Dancing made its way into the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s most successful reality TV show. I visited The Bullring this weekend, having never been before and was overwhelmed with the enormity and the atmosphere of the place. With the addition of Christmas decorations, it is sure to be a magical day out, maybe even two if you want to cover it all! One of the highlights of the weekend for me was American women’s fashion brand Forever 21, which has a two floor shop in The Bullring. This brand is giant in other parts of the globe but Birmingham and London are the only two places in the UK to house a store. Steps are one of Britain’s best loved pop bands, with 14 consecutive UK Top 5 hits and 2 number 1 albums. The band were formed in 1997 with a clever gimmick, all their songs were upbeat, catchy and best of all, had dance routines that were easy to learn. There isn’t a single person from the 90s that couldn’t tell you the dance to 5,6,7,8 or Tragedy. The routines were common knowledge, performed around playgrounds and parties all around the UK. However, in 2001 the band split after releasing a greatest hits album, declaring that they wanted to quit while they were ahead and end on a high. It has since come to light that two members, H and Claire, were unhappy in the group and quit on the last night of the Gold: Greatest Hits Tour. Since the split, none of the band members have had any real musical success. Lisa took part in several reality TV series, H and Claire released a solo album but were dropped from their label after poor sales, whilst Faye and Lee have had success in theatre and Lee has formed his own business, OK!FamouslyFit. However  this year, the band reunited to take part in reality TV series, Steps: The Reunion. They spoke candidly about their feelings about the split and it made for compelling viewing. The upcoming tour will be packed full of old classics and favourites as well as new material. A must-see concert for any Steps fan, the tour is hoping to launch a Take-That-esque comeback.

Kamaljit Singh Jhooti, better known as Jay Sean, first appeared on the music scene in 2003 as a member of the Rishi Rich Project, a venture set up by Rishi Rich, a British-Indian music producer, to showcase young Asian music artists. Jay Sean was snapped up by Virgin Records and went on to release his most successful album to date in 2004, Me Against Myself. Interestingly, this album wasn’t very successful in the UK but was extremely popular in Asia, selling over 2 million copies. In 2008, his second album, My Own Way, reached number 6 in the UK charts, making it his most successful UK album, but it was his signing to Cash Money Records in 2008 that has really rocketed his career. His 2009 single, Down, featuring US superstar rapper Lil Wayne went straight to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in America, making him the first ever UK male urban artist to have a number one single in the US. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength, working with the likes of Nicky Minaj, Sean Paul, Lil Jon and Justin Timberlake.
