If you’re a fan of classic film and are going to be in London in July or October then the Serviced City Pads blog would recommend a visit to the Prince Charles Cinema to see silent cinema on the big screen.

This celebration of the silent era began on the 30th June and will be taking place until 27th October 2011. On the last Thursday of every month, audiences will have the chance to see films from around the world, including the United States, Britain, Russia and Germany; for example, the German classic Nosferatu (directed by F. W. Murnau) will be showing. However, it’s not all horror and doom – you will also have the chance to see the incredible slapstick comedy of Buster Keaton, one of the most iconic and beloved of the silent movie stars. With Keaton you can take a trip back to a time before health and safety regulations to watch a man risking life and limb to make us chuckle. Of course, there is also the chance to see Keaton’s colleague, Charlie Chaplin, who is still one of the most enduringly famous men in cinema history.

Each screening will also have live musical accompaniment to take you back to how they would have been seen by audiences back in their heyday. Seeing one of these classic films as they were meant to be seen is sure to be an unforgettable experience for any film lover.
