MUSIC Gig of the month is The Script at the Liverpool Carling Academy on Sunday August 10th. Described as “Timbaland meets U2”, the band have cemented their status as one of the hottest acts around having already supported N*E*R*D at Carling Academy Brixton and joined The Hoosiers on tour. Other bands at Carling Academy 2 this month are the Pink Floyd tribute act Crazy Diamond on Saturday August 9th, My Auntie Sam on Saturday 16th, Just Another Band on Friday 29th and The Gutter Twins on August 30th. Also over the bank holiday, Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th August sees the annual dance festival Creamfields. Originally based in
SPORT Everton’s 2007/08 campaign ended in a fifth place finish and a return to the Uefa Cup. There were plenty of positives to take from the season as the Toffees made a real impact on the Uefa Cup, the Premier League and the Carling Cup. The league campaign had Everton mounting a real tilt at fourth place right up until the end of March, and they also reached the semi-final of the league cup before losing out over two legs to Chelsea. Everton kick off the new season playing Blackburn at home, if you’re visiting Liverpool for this or the game against Portsmouth on the 30th, why not stay over in one of Serviced City Pads quality apartments and enjoy a weekend in the city. Liverpool’s only home game this month is Middlesborough on the 23rd, if you are here why not make a weekend out of the bank holiday, there are apartments to suit your every need and plenty going on in and around the City. Also in August The World Firefighter Games come to Liverpool and will see a hive of activity taking place in and around the Liverpool Echo Arena. The Games are being staged by Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service from August 24 to September 2, 2008, and will be a real highlight of the city’s Capital of Culture year. More than 5,000 competitors from across the world are expected to arrive in the city for the 10-day spectacle, and this diverse range of categories means there’ll be something to suit all levels and abilities. If you are taking part why not give Chris a ring at Serviced City Pads on 01517098000 to sort you out somewhere to base yourself for the games.
